Fieldschool’s Winter Jam Project
What are Fieldschool Projects?
Each day at Fieldschool, we focus on 1–2 project-based units called "Fieldschool Projects". Each semester we select 4–6 diverse Projects and rotate through them on a weekly basis, providing a consistent backdrop for endless variety and adventure.
Your learner can sign up for a drop-in pass and only attend on days that have their favourite Projects (for instance, joining each Tuesday for Parkour Academy). Or, they can jump in for 2–4 days per week and experience our full, diverse range of Projects. Click here to view 'em all!

Adventure at Mt. Seymour and Beyond (January – March 2025)
Get ready for a winter adventure like no other! Fieldschool Winter Jam is a thrilling project-based learning experience running every Wednesday and Thursday between January and February 2025. Winter activities are a core element of Canadian identity, as well as building physical literacy and a sense of fun. Whether you’re a snow-loving explorer or a curious learner, this unique program is designed to safely combine outdoor fun with practical skills and environmental awareness—all with a fun winter theme! Fieldschool Winter Jam 2025 involves winter activities ranging from snowshoeing scenic Mt. Seymour in North Vancouver to exploring local curling and skating rinks!
What’s on the Winter Jam Agenda?
Each week, learners will dive into an action-packed blend of winter sports and environmental science. It’s a perfect combination to build both physical abilities and an appreciation for the natural world! Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Snowshoeing: Trek through the stunning backcountry trails of Mt. Seymour. Learn how to navigate the snow-covered wilderness while building endurance and understanding how to be safe in snowy terrain.
- Skiing or Snowboarding: Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, everyone gets to enjoy a full day on the slopes to hone their skiing or boarding skills. You’ll get professional instruction from the experts at Mt. Seymour, known for their friendly, knowledgeable staff and awesome family-friendly terrain.
- Intro to Avalanche Training: Safety is a priority in the snow! In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of avalanche awareness including how to read the terrain, recognize potential hazards, and use essential avalanche safety equipment. It’s a must-know skill for any winter adventurer.
- Ice Skating: We will have several days dedicated to getting on the ice and practicing skating skills at some local rinks. These lessons will have everyone going from Bambi on ice to McDavid in no time!
- Curling: It’s no longer an old person’s sport! Curling’s popularity is back as it’s an awesome international sport that combines teamwork and play into a strategic fun time. It’s the perfect community for the winter months.
- Winter Climate Change Education: We’ll explore the basic science behind snow and climate, discussing how the change in our climate is impacting snowfall patterns and what that means for future winters. You’ll discover ways to be better prepared in snowy conditions while also learning how we can all take action to protect the environment.
