SUMMER 2019 CAMPS

Vancouver Outdoor School’s 2019 Summer Camps and Expeditions are partnered and lead by our sister organization Fireside Adventures. Every child should spend a part of their summer at camp learning, exploring, leading, connecting and discovering
the benefits of a summer camp experience.

“I hate camping, but I love summer camp.”

– Zooey Deschanel (New Girl)

Attention Confident and/or Reluctant Parents:

When kids go to overnight camp, they develop a sense of independence, new skills and friends while unplugging from their digital and urban world to connect with nature and simply to have fun.

We know how challenging it is to find an overnight summer camp that is affordable, safe, high quality and will give your children the attention and support they need. We know parents want the best for their kids and the level of confidence they need from their choice of a summer camp. We get it!

Vancouver Outdoor School and Fireside Adventures work together to operate a local, intentional and small group overnight camp for kids aged 7 to 12 years. Our overnight camps are designed to provide the perfect mix of fostering children’s social-emotional learning, skill-based training, gourmet cooking lessons and immersion in the North Shore local forests and Galiano Island. Imagine your kid(s) swimming, preparing a fabulous dinner, hiking,
exploring, dancing, building, creating, dreaming, laughing and just enjoying
the precious moments of being a kid at camp.

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hood Camps (Boys and Girls)

We have created two streams of Hood Camps to immerse children into the basics of outdoor adventure, overnight camping and connecting with their own gender. Our camp experiences are based on the belief that both boys and girls have the same

interest level in cooking, or running around in the forest, but that each gender group may experience the activity differently.
We believe childhood identity can be defined and developed by the children themselves if they are given the support and guidance of caring, wise and compassionate adults and mentors. We emphasis our Hood Camp experiences on outdoor skills and adventures, place based learning, food and physical literacy, LARP (live action role playing) Camp Theatre and more.

Yukon Explorer – Climate change education and outdoor leadership

Climate change will fundamentally reshape everything in our present lives and the lives of future generations in all aspects, no matter how much we believe it won’t.
Many years ago, it was said how leadership would define present and future generations in making the world a more peaceful place. The concept and empowerment of leadership is incredibly important. However, we believe Climate Change is fundamentally forcing the world to rethink the leadership paradigm.
We have created an environmental and expedition style leadership course built upon the three key leadership landmarks.

  1. Provide youth with practical knowledge and direction to address Climate Change.
  2. Provide adaptable and relevant outdoor leadership skill training.
  3. Provide immersive outdoor adventures into life shaping experiences within a unique area impacted by Climate Change.
